Alex Nogales
Alex Nogales, president & CEO of the National Hispanic Media Coalition, has a degree in film and television from UCLA and is an Emmy Award-winning television producer. Elected president of the National Hispanic Media Coalition in the late 1990s, he led boycotts against the advertisers of the Howard Stern Show, and under Nogales' leadership, the NHMC has over the years filed more than 50 petitions with the FCC to deny broadcast licenses. Nogales also led demonstrations against ABC and Disney for refusing to hire Latinos in significant numbers and intensified the dialogue with local stations across the country to force them to hire Latino reporters and anchors. The NHMC under Nogales was instrumental in the signing of Memorandums of Understanding with NBC, ABC, CBS and Fox in the year 2000. An additional Memorandum was signed with Time Warner in 2003. Nogales also led the National Latino Media Council's fight with the Nielsen Research Company over its undercounting of Latinos on both English- and Spanish-language television. Currently, Nogales is evaluating the diversity performance of the four networks and pushing for diversity initiatives in the public policy arena.
