Why should I leave a gift to Free Press?
Because Free Press’s work today will determine whether the media system of tomorrow provides critical journalism and a diversity of voices, or whether it continues to consolidate into the hands of a few massive media conglomerates.
The Free Press Legacy Society gives you the opportunity to make tax-wise gifts to help Free Press reach our goal of creating a more diverse, democratic and accountable media system. Planned gifts provide the resources we need to succeed, and enable us to prepare future programs and strategies. You don’t have to be wealthy to make a planned gift. People of every age and income level can make a planned gift to ensure that media reform becomes reality.

Naming Free Press a beneficiary of your life insurance plan, retirement account or bank account
Cash gifts are the easiest and most common gift.
One of the most popular types of planned gifts, bequests reduce the size of your taxable estate while helping to advance media reform. Bequests can be made in a variety of ways:
These are easy to give and offer great tax advantages. Stock can be transferred electronically and donors can receive substantial relief from capital gains taxes.
This is simple and direct. You can list Free Press as the only beneficiary, as a partial primary beneficiary, or as the contingent successor beneficiary, receiving the benefits only if a named individual beneficiary predeceases you. It is easy to make a change to the beneficiary designation of your accounts without changing your will or other aspects of your estate plan. Just ask your insurance company, bank or investment firm for a form that will allow you to make Free Press a beneficiary of your policy.
How to add Free Press to your will
Call your lawyer. He or she can help you draft a new will, or add a codicil to your existing will naming Free Press as a beneficiary.

When making your gift, please let us know your preference regarding acknowledgment.
Note
It is important to fully discuss the implications of your gift with your tax or estate specialist. Gifts will have differing tax implications depending on the size of your estate, other charitable gifts you plan to make, etc.
